Bald Eagles Launch Sale
Bald Eagle Launch Today!
Happy 4th of July! I'm feeling a lot of conflicting emotions about patriotism these days, but there's no denying that I love beautiful birds.
I've been playing around with wider graphics that will wrap around our ceramic camp mugs, so it will look good from all angles (and for lefties like myself to enjoy them). I also wanted to experiment by adding some depth with foreground and background elements, which is always tricky in a one-color medium like sandcarving.
I think this one turned out really well, don't you?
Let me take a moment to tell you more about the inspiration for this design. My grandparents were birders, and as a kid whenever we got together with them, they always had their binoculars and bird ID books handy. They would tell long, boring stories about the birds they saw on vacation, and I hated it.
Now, as an adult, I've learned to love birding, and carry my own binoculars and books with me whenever I go out. I'm sad that my grandparents all passed before I could share this love with them, and I miss them dearly.
I'm originally from Massachusetts, and had never seen a bald eagle until I moved to Portland, Oregon. Now I see them pretty much whenever we go to the beach, or sometimes while hiking, and I've occasionally seen one fly over our neighborhood. They aren't my "spark" bird that inspired me to start birding (I think that was the turkey vulture), but I do love seeing them flying free.
Shop our new Bald Eagle ceramic camp mugs now! They're on sale for $5 off through Monday, July 6th, in a wide range of earthy colors.
